Paso Robles

The city of Paso Robles—known since the early 1800s for its hot springs—lies on the Salinas River, 20 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean and halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.  The Paso Robles AVA is within San Luis Obispo County and has warm, clear days and cool nights when the temperature may drop by as much as 40 degrees.  These extreme differences in daytime and nighttime temperatures result from the cool marine layer that moves over the region after sunset.  Diverse microclimates throughout the area allow both cool- and warm-climate-loving wine grape varieties to perform well.  Unique limestone soils add structure and intriguing minerality to the Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel wines produced here.
