Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio
Pinot Gris (pee-noh gree) takes its name from its pinkish-gray grapes. "Gris" means "gray" in French, and "grigio"—as the wine is called in Italy—means "gray" in Italian. This wine has recently skyrocketed to popularity in the United States, and thrives in California’s cooler coastal spots. The Alsatian style of Pinot Gris is richer on the palate, often with notable minerality. Light, exuberantly fruity, clean citrus and melon character make this wine a natural pair for fish, chicken or simple pasta tossed with heirloom tomatoes, basil, lemon juice and olive oil. Enjoy chilled.
