Sacramento Valley

With its bustling cities, winding rivers, rural towns and undulating vineyards, the Sacramento Valley illustrates the diversity of the California landscape.  It runs for approximately 120 miles, from Red Bluff in the south to the city of Sacramento in the northeast.  Bordered by the Sierra Nevada to the east and the coastal mountain range to the west, this level, sun-drenched area enjoys warm summers and early falls.  Rugged hills and snow-capped mountains surround the vineyards, orchards and fields that flourish on the valley floor.

This region has more than 8,000 acres planted to wine grapes, with Chardonnay the most prominent; sun-loving Zinfandel is second, and Rhône varieties are gaining in popularity.  There are more than 50 wineries here and the area produces nearly two percent of the state’s winegrapes.
